Simply Put
M-O (NOT M.O.M. or Milk Of Magnesia) is a golden/brown powder. M-O is
a natural product generated from the outer wall of the Saccharomyes
cerevisiae yeast.
It has the ability to 'BIND UP' or 'CAPTURE' bad bacteria in the gut. Bacteria adhere to tissues selectively. hair like protrusions called fimbriae on the bacteria bind exclusively to certain surface carbohydrates. These interactions determine which tissues are susceptible to bacterial invasion.
The M-O appears to the bad bacteria as 'gut wall' and they attach to it.
Then because the M-O with the bad guys attached to it is free floating it is 'pooped' out of the goat -- M-O and Bad Bacteria together.
There has been EXTENSIVE studies done on the effects of M-O. This product is used word wide and IT WORKS!
Management challenge
When land gets flooded the movement of vast amount of water carry
with it bacteria (e coli, salmonella etc.) from one place to another,
contaminating the ground.
After the flood waters subside and livestock is sent back out to pastures the bacteria that has been deposited onto the pastures are consumed by the grazing livestock, the result is a gut loaded with a heavy concentration of BAD BACTERIA. The result can be sick, scouring and dying animals. We had several customers facing this challenge during the flooding on the East Coast a few years ago.
The feeding of M-O mixed in their feed and in many of the acute cases given orally to the specific animal, worked to eliminate that pathogens from the animals system and help them back on their way to good health.
Animals that are taken to shows or exhibitions are also at greater risk for bacteria invasion. The feeding of M-O on a regular basis to these animals should be considered.
Administering M-O
Two pounds of M-O can be added to a ton of feed or add 2# of M-O to
our loose free choice mineral mix.
For acute cases M-O can be administered directly to specific animals.
M-O can be given to any age animal.
We have used it on kids that are just a week old that had what we suspected as a mycotoxin problem (brought on my heavy rains) and have used it in what we concluded was floppy kid and many of our customers have used it for various types of intestinal upsets.
You use a small amount -- about 1/8-1/4 tsp for a kid and 1 tsp to 1 TBS for an adult.
To do this we take a HEAPING TABLESPOON of M-O and add the M-O to a jar containing 4 ounces VERY WARM water and shake. After five minutes or so shake the jar again and you should have a smooth liquid. NOTE: Letting the solution sit the five minutes will give you a much smoother mix.
We administer the solution with a drenching syringe four to six times a day giving 10-15 cc to kids in the 7-10# range and 30 cc - 60 cc to an adult.
Several small dose a day (4-6 times a day) are more effective than a couple of large doses!
Continue until desired results are achieved.
The Antibiotic Challenge
The livestock industry worldwide is facing a dilemma: sub clinical
infections and challenges continue to prevent producers from reaching
their maximum potential. As a result, livestock producers have
continued to rely upon feed additive antibiotic growth promoters. A
growing number of consumers and public health officials, fearful that
pathogens will develop resistance and then pass the resistance to
human pathogens, are clamoring for their elimination from animal
feed. A few countries, most notably Denmark, Sweden, and Thailand,
have taken legal steps to ban the use of antibiotics for
growth-promoting purposes. With growing public discontent, even the
scientific community is beginning to push for other options. (Feeding
